I'm not very good at blogging, but I did want to leave a comment. My comment is about the "rotating" 72hr kits. One of the things that Scott and I have done that helps out with rotating them is that we have made it a Conference tradition to go through our 72hr kits. We generally pull them out while we are watching general conference, or in between sessions and just sorta sort through them and pull the stuff that is about to expire and replace it with current stuff from the cupboard. Then we make sure to use the stuff we pulled. Anyhow it makes it so that we review our kits at least every 6 months.
Hello! My name is Sherry Matthews and I'm your Ward Emergency Preparedness Specialist. It's my job to keep you motivated. I'll be constantly adding new information-- so check back often. Also feel free to leave me questions, comments or ideas that you might have about food storage or 72-hr kits.
For those just starting out: 1) Basic 72 hr kit completed 2) Make a realistic plan for food storage and follow it towards a 3-month supply of food; 2-week supply of water
For those already started: 1) Have an updated / rotated 72-hr kit; emergency cash saved 2) Add a 3 months supply of food to your current food storage.
~As a ward I know we can move forward with our Emergency Preparedness and become more ready for the unexpected. During the next 6 months you’ll see more opportunities to strengthen your knowledge about food storage, along with opportunities to increase your food storage such as trips to the cannery. Keep a positive, can do attitude it will propel you towards success. The time has come to be prepared and it’s easier than you think. It’s just so important not to put food storage off, let this be your “Someday” and grasp this opportunity to make progress. ~

Excellent advice Ester! I agree that a set time, such as conference, is a great way to remember to rotate things like water or 72-hr kits.
